MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS IS A NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER
Under healthy conditions blood vessels in the brain and spinal cord have tight resistance and prevent immune cells entering, but in MS, these blood vessels break down and allow immune cells into the brain. In our studies we are trying to design ways of making the blood vessels more resistant to breakdown as well as approaches to repair them quicker once they have been broken down. Our neuroscientists and vascular biologists have identified some molecular candidates that may enhance blood vessel integrity and others that if stimulated, speed vascular repair. The overall goal is to make brain and spinal cord blood vessels better equipped to resist neurological damage.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Our research programs are funded primarily by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and private donations. These help accelerate the progress of research through the purchase of laboratory supplies and equipment or the recruitment of additional laboratory personnel. Thank you!
